Cable Crossover
A chest-sculpting move that uses the cable machine or bands to really dial in those muscles. With arms out wide, pull the cables / bands inward in a sweeping arc until they meet in front of your body - like you're drawing in a massive forest hug. It targets the inner and outer chest while building definition, control, and that strong bear squeeze!
Instructions
- For Cable Machine: Set the pulleys on a dual cable machine to shoulder or slightly above shoulder height.
- Stand centered between the pulleys, grasping a handle in each hand with your arms outstretched.
- Step forward with one foot for balance and lean slightly forward at the waist.
- Bring your hands together in front of your body in a wide arc, crossing slightly if desired for full contraction.
- Pause briefly, then slowly return to the starting position with control.
- For Resistance Bands: Anchor the bands at a high position (e.g., a door frame or rack).
- Hold a band in each hand and perform the same motion as with cables, maintaining tension through the full range of motion.
Benefits
- Isolates and defines the pectoral muscles, especially the inner chest.
- Provides constant resistance through full range of motion.
- Improves muscular control and chest symmetry.
- Cable and band variations allow for versatility and easy resistance adjustment.
- Useful as a finisher in upper-body workouts for maximum chest engagement.
Key Points
- Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the motion.
- Maintain a stable stance and engage your core for balance.
- Focus on squeezing your chest muscles at the peak of the contraction.
- Control the movement during both the push and return phases.
- Avoid shrugging your shoulders - keep them relaxed and down.
Common Mistakes
- Using momentum or swinging the arms too quickly.
- Allowing the arms to fully straighten or lock out.
- Shrugging the shoulders or rounding the upper back.
- Crossing too far and losing tension in the chest.
- Using excessive weight or band resistance, sacrificing form.
