Waddle like a mighty bear with a whole wooden forest on your back. Unrack the yoke, brace your belly like you are about to hibernate, then take quick, confident steps. Keep your chest proud, paws steady, and eyes forward. Slow is smooth, smooth is strong, and strong is very bear.

Instructions

  1. Set the yoke height so the crossbar sits high on your upper back (traps) when standing tall.
  2. Load the yoke evenly and check all pins, collars, and uprights are secure.
  3. Step under the crossbar, place feet under hips, and grip the uprights firmly.
  4. Take a big breath, brace your core, and stand up to unrack the yoke.
  5. Stabilize, then begin walking with short, quick steps over the target distance.
  6. Keep your torso rigid and shoulders tight as the yoke sways; keep moving.
  7. At the finish, slow down under control and set the yoke down by squatting to the supports or to the ground safely.

Benefits

  • Builds total-body strength and bracing under heavy load
  • Improves postural strength and spinal stiffness endurance
  • Develops leg drive and work capacity for strongman and athletics
  • Trains coordination and stability while moving under load

Key Points

  • Brace hard before you lift and refresh your brace with quick breaths as needed.
  • Use short, fast steps to reduce sway and keep momentum.
  • Keep the yoke centered over midfoot; avoid leaning back or folding forward.
  • Squeeze the uprights and keep lats tight to control side-to-side movement.
  • Pick a straight line and keep eyes forward to stay balanced.

Common Mistakes

  • Taking long steps that increase sway and cause loss of balance
  • Failing to brace before unracking, leading to torso collapse
  • Starting too fast and getting pitched forward or backward
  • Letting the yoke drift to the toes or heels instead of midfoot
  • Uneven loading or loose hardware causing instability
  • Dropping the yoke carelessly instead of setting it down under control
